Free Primary Healthcare programme gets over 24,000 pieces of medical equipment

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has announced the distribution of over 24,000 pieces of basic medical equipment to primary healthcare facilities nationwide as part of the Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) programme. The initiative aims to enhance healthcare delivery at the community level and improve access to essential medical services.

At a community event in Daffiama Bussie Issa District, Mr Akandoh revealed that 5,000 healthcare bags, already distributed, contained essential medical supplies. He assured that another 5,000 healthcare bags would be provided soon, along with 7,000 motorbikes and tricycles. These logistics will enable health professionals to deliver healthcare services directly to residents in their homes, religious places, and other community settings.

The approach emphasizes disease prevention and early detection, shifting focus from hospital-centric care. Health workers will screen for conditions such as hypertension and high blood sugar, referring patients needing further attention to appropriate facilities. The Free Primary Healthcare programme promises free services at CHPS compounds, health centres, and polyclinics, covering management of common ailments like malaria, diarrhoea, and respiratory infections.
