Former Rangers Defenseman Suddenly Lands PTO From Big Rival

Former New York Rangers defenseman Carson Soucy has signed a professional tryout (PTO) agreement with the Columbus Blue Jackets, according to the Columbus organization. This news comes after Soucy hit the free agent market over two months ago. The Blue Jackets, who are one of the Rangers' Metropolitan Division rivals, will now welcome Soucy to their training camp.

The 8-year NHL veteran, who signed with the Rangers during the 2024-25 season from the Vancouver Canucks, has shown his value with 4 goals, 7 assists, 11 points, 100 hits, and a plus-6 rating in 62 games over two seasons with the Rangers. If Soucy impresses during his PTO, it is possible that the Blue Jackets may sign him for the 2026-27 season, providing them with another option on their bottom pairing and penalty kill.
