Young Juan David Camacho Márquez, a wildlife photographer, has triumphed with a stunning image of a Canada Warbler, taking the Youth prize in the 2026 Audubon Photography Awards. The Colombian native had been attempting to capture this elusive species for years before his perseverance paid off. His striking photograph showcases the bird perched above a delicate spiderweb, creating a natural harmony as the bird appears to gaze upon the web.

While searching for the Plain-backed Antpitta, a rare sighting for the area, Juan marveled at the Canada Warbler during a cloudy morning. Satisfied with his initial find, he took a photo of the warbler only to discover later the perfect dew-covered spiderweb beneath the branch. The bird seemed to be fixated on the web, crafting a perfect composition.

The Canada Warbler, a long-distance migrant, is found in South America during its nonbreeding season, primarily in the Andes at middle elevations. The bird frequents the dense understory of rainforests and cloud forests, often joining flocks of other migrants and resident birds, particularly those that follow swarms of army ants. The Canada Warbler preys on the smaller insects that the ants stir up, making this image a true testament to the bird's unique feeding habits.

Judged by Sebastian Herzog, the photograph's success lies in its precise timing, sharp focus, and ideal depth of field.
