Emergency services rescue injured paraglider trapped in Murcia mountains

On September 12, emergency services in Murcia swiftly rescued an injured paraglider trapped in the Sierra del Buey mountains, located between Jumilla and Yecla. The 58-year-old athlete suffered an accident during his paragliding flight and was unable to move on his own due to his injury. Initially, he provided his location to a friend but was unable to transmit it again due to his pain.

Municipal police and Guardia Civil deployed a drone to locate the man, but the exact location remained unclear. The Jumilla Local Police first located the injured paraglider and managed to reach him. The man was assessed, and it was determined that an aerial rescue was not necessary. The 061 emergency medical team was transported in an off-road vehicle from the local police to reach the man at his difficult location.

Paramedics treated the man on the spot before moving him to a police SUV where he was transferred to a location where an ambulance could pick him up. The man was stabilized and evacuated to the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital in Murcia for further medical care. The quick response of the emergency services saved the paraglider's life and demonstrated the importance of planning and safety measures for sports enthusiasts in mountainous areas.
