Dropped after scoring 81: Sooryavanshi’s omission sparks question on clarity

India's most recent T20I Player of the Match, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, aged 15, has been dropped from the playing XI following a half-century in his most recent innings. Sooryavanshi, who recently scored an impressive 81 in the third T20I against Zimbabwe, had previously struggled in his first five T20Is, averaging only 22.4. His latest performance showcased his ability to rotate strike, respect good deliveries, and resist swinging through the line, earning praise from interim head coach VVS Laxman.

Despite this, Sooryavanshi was replaced by Sanju Samson in the first match of the three-game T20I series, a decision that seemed perplexing given Samson's recent return to the team. Samson, the key architect behind India's 2026 T20 World Cup victory, had been previously dropped for the Zimbabwe tour, only to be reinstated after recovering from an injury.

The team's decision to omit Sooryavanshi may have been influenced by Ishan Kishan's ongoing injury concerns, but captain Shreyas Iyer did not disclose the exact reason behind the omission.
