Deputies respond to trespasser at Malibu home of Kamala Harris

A suspicious individual was reported at former Vice President Kamala Harris' Malibu residence on Friday night, according to Los Angeles County authorities and a Harris spokesperson. Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the property around 10:30 p.m. following a call from the home's private security team, who suspected a threat.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered the intruder and requested they depart. The trespasser complied with the deputies' instructions and left the scene without any issues. Eduardo Negrón, a spokesperson for Harris, confirmed that security personnel had prevented the unauthorized entry before the person reached the front door. Harris and her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, were not at home at the time of the incident.

Both Harris and Emhoff expressed gratitude to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded promptly to the situation. The sheriff's department stated that a trespassing report had been filed, and they would increase patrols in the vicinity as a precautionary measure. Former vice presidents typically receive federal protection for six months post their term, while former presidents benefit from lifelong protection.

Former President Joe Biden had extended Harris's protection beyond the standard six-month period. However, President Donald Trump rescinded the extension in August, and it would have concluded this summer.
