Dafinone pledges to protect Urhobo interests in Delta gas park

Urhobo Senator Ede Dafinone has reiterated his commitment to safeguarding the economic interests of the Urhobo people amidst debates surrounding the planned Industrial Gas Park in Sanubi-Orogun, Delta State. In a statement to journalists, Dafinone, the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, emphasized his unwavering stance against any move that could jeopardize the Urhobo nation's access to the project's economic advantages.

The senator clarified that his position is firmly rooted in the importance of protecting the collective interests of the people of his senatorial district. Dafinone's engagement with the project began through his legislative oversight responsibilities and interactions with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board. He acknowledged genuine concerns regarding land acquisition, ownership disputes, and the proposed location of the gas park.

However, he emphasized that addressing these challenges should not be misconstrued as opposition to the project or an attempt to displace the development to non-Urhobo lands. Dafinone stressed that any decision regarding the Industrial Gas Park's future location must be carefully evaluated to ensure the project does not lead to the removal of economic opportunities from Urhobo territory.
