Continuing fight for democratic rights will be biggest homage to Comrade Yechury: Prabir Purkayastha

NewsClick's founding editor, Prabir Purkayastha, emphasized that the most fitting tribute to the late CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury would be to continue the struggle for democratic rights. Describing Yechury as a remarkable leader capable of uniting diverse individuals in the fight for democratic rights, Purkayastha highlighted the challenges confronting the younger generation.

These challenges include safeguarding democratic rights, ensuring people's electoral rights, and maintaining the right to free and fair elections. Speaking at a seminar in Khammam to commemorate the second death anniversary of Yechury, Purkayastha posed a crucial question: are we prepared to lead and bring these people together?

He stressed that the best homage to Yechury would be to carry forward his legacy of fighting for democratic rights. Other speakers included Tammineni Veerabhadram, a Central Committee member of CPI(M), Pothineni Sudarshan Rao, a State secretariat member, and Nunna Nageshwara Rao, a district committee secretary. They, too, paid their respects to senior CPI(M) leader Sarampalli Malla Reddy, who had recently passed away.
