Cement-filled barrel containing suspected human body found in Melaka

Police launched a murder investigation after a blue barrel containing suspected human remains was discovered on a slope near the Machap Water Retention Pond in Alor Gajah. The barrel was found by three individuals between the ages of 25 and 35, who were fishing at the retention pond around 11:40 am. Upon noticing the barrel, the group became suspicious and partially opened it, revealing bones cemented inside.

The fishing group promptly reported the discovery to the police, who arrived at the location around noon. Preliminary investigations revealed that the decomposed remains had been there for over three weeks. Police requested assistance from the Melaka Fire and Rescue Department to retrieve the barrel, which was situated on a slope beside the road.

The remains were transported to Melaka Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the victim's gender and identity. Authorities urged anyone with information regarding a missing family member to come forward and file a police report to aid in the ongoing investigation. The case is being treated as a potential murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Police chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar appealed for any relevant information to be directed to the nearest police station.
