BRICS Summit 2026 Live Updates: On Day 2, leaders to explore opportunities for inclusive growth

New Delhi, September 13 — During the Brics summit held in New Delhi, the group of emerging economies unanimously agreed on the importance of bolstering energy security, ensuring market stability, and maintaining uninterrupted energy supply. The declaration, released following the summit, emphasized that energy security is a vital foundation for social and economic development, national security, and the overall welfare of all nations.

The leaders highlighted the necessity of stable energy supplies and the protection of infrastructure to achieve energy security. They stressed the need to enhance energy security by maintaining market stability, preserving harmonious flows of energy from various sources, bolstering value chains, ensuring resilience, and safeguarding critical energy infrastructure, including cross-border facilities.

The Brics leaders expressed serious concern over the ongoing conflicts worldwide and the prevailing polarization and fragmentation of the international order. They appealed to the international community to tackle these challenges through diplomatic means. Brics nations also highlighted their apprehension regarding escalating risks associated with nuclear threats and conflicts.

"We express concern about the growing risks of nuclear danger and conflict," the declaration stated. Furthermore, Brics emphasized the requirement to strengthen the disarmament and arms control system. The leaders were particularly alarmed by deliberate attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards, which contravened international law and relevant IAEA resolutions.

They reiterated the importance of upholding nuclear safeguards, safety, and security, even in armed conflicts, to protect people and the environment from harm. The 18th Brics summit took place on September 12-13 in New Delhi.
