BRICS offers economic opportunities, reduces Western market dependence, says Anwar

BRICS presents significant economic advantages, reducing reliance on Western markets, according to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Speaking at the BRICS Summit, Anwar highlighted that the alliance's large integrated market and expanded trade opportunities would stimulate economic growth and shared prosperity. He emphasized that the BRICS member economies could lessen their dependence on traditional Western markets with these synergies.

Anwar stressed that wars driving up energy prices and threatening maritime routes could not coexist with inclusive growth and global prosperity. He cited Israel's aggression in the Middle East as a threat to countries not directly involved, causing higher inflation and uncertainty worldwide. Malaysia, he argued, would not tolerate sovereignty violations, civilian protection breaches, or the desecration of global economic arteries.

He urged those with the capacity to shape events to prevent tensions from escalating further. Malaysia hoped BRICS would unequivocally reject occupation, colonialism, and settler terrorism, stating that no life is less valuable based on living conditions. Anwar concluded by emphasizing that strategic autonomy meant choosing one's path and defending it when necessary, hoping Malaysia could contribute positively to BRICS as a partner country.
