Assam man, 22, who tried to kill himself after murdering his girlfriend, held: Cop

On Sunday in Assam's Kamrup Rural district, a 22-year-old man named Abhijit Kindo was arrested for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death with a sharp weapon in a hotel room, according to police. The victim, a 23-year-old woman named Malani Guriya, was found dead with injuries inside the same hotel room near Rangia railway station in the early hours of the morning.

Kindo, a resident of Udalguri district, was initially detained from the hotel room and later arrested after a case was registered under section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder. Guriya had arrived in Rangia from Chennai the previous day and was in contact with Kindo. Police received information about the alleged murder from an RPF inspector at Rangia railway station around 6:12am, and a team arrived at the hotel shortly after.

When the police knocked on the door, Kindo opened it and was found soaked in blood, while Guriya's body lay on the floor and Kindo himself was bleeding. Kindo was taken to a government hospital for medical attention due to his numerous injuries. It is believed that an altercation between the couple occurred late at night before Guriya's death.

The friends of Guriya suspect that an argument took place before she was killed. Police say that Kindo assaulted Guriya with a pair of scissors and a tester, leading to her death. He then informed her friends about the act via phone and attempted suicide. A forensic team from the Guwahati-based Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has been called in to conduct further examinations and collect evidence.

The postmortem examination of Guriya's body has been sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, and the family has been informed about the incident. Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the murder, and legal actions have been initiated.
