As world leaders attend BRICS sessions, their families go on cultural excursion

Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for breakfast in Delhi on Sunday. Ibrahim was in India for the BRICS Summit, which took place from September 12-13. Gandhi and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also attended the meeting. The Congress shared photos of the breakfast meeting on their social media accounts.

This meeting occurred a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Anwar Ibrahim held talks, focusing on cooperation in trade, semiconductors, infrastructure, and defense. During the BRICS Summit, Modi and Ibrahim discussed various aspects of their bilateral relationship, including trade, semiconductors, infrastructure, and defense.

Malaysia, being a partner country in the BRICS grouping and a key partner for India within the ASEAN grouping, has been strengthening its ties with India in various sectors. The leaders discussed potential areas of growth, such as semiconductors, critical minerals, clean energy, infrastructure, and talent mobility. They also highlighted the growing defense partnership, expanding two-way investments, and deeper people-to-people links.

Anwar Ibrahim expressed the need to facilitate and accelerate the entry of Malaysian export goods into the Indian market to allow Malaysian companies to tap into India's rapidly growing market. The two leaders also reviewed the outcomes of Modi's visit to Malaysia in February and assessed progress in cooperation across sectors such as trade and investment, defense and security, infrastructure, digital economy, energy, fintech, education, tourism, and people-to-people ties.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Anwar Ibrahim also confirmed Malaysia's agreement to establish an Indian consulate in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
