Rahul, a senior leader of India's National Congress party, characterized the discussion with Anwar as friendly and meaningful.

"Having a friendly and meaningful discussion with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in the morning," he shared on social media. Rahul's sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who also represents the Indian National Congress in the Kerala constituency of Wayanad, also attended the meeting. Rahul also posted pictures showcasing Anwar seated alongside two other Congress leaders, alongside officials from both nations.

No details were provided at the time regarding the specific topics discussed during the meeting. Rahul and Priyanka are among the most prominent leaders within the Indian Congress party, which is the main opposition party in India. The morning tea session took place the day after Anwar held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to New Delhi.

Anwar and Modi discussed strengthening cooperation between Malaysia and India in various sectors including semiconductors, trade, and investment, as well as facilitating the entry of Malaysian products into the Indian market. Anwar was in India to attend the BRICS Summit, where he also met with several world leaders and an Indian business delegation.
