Anwar Gargash: Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's meeting with Iran President reflects UAE policy of deterrence, diplomacy

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the 18th BRICS Leaders Summit in New Delhi, underscoring the UAE's strategy of balancing deterrence with diplomacy to ensure regional security, according to Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, the UAE's Diplomatic Adviser.

The meeting took place as part of a series of discussions with leaders present at the summit. Gargash emphasized that both deterrence and diplomacy are essential, as each reinforces the other. He noted that deterrence enhances the credibility of diplomatic efforts, while diplomacy thrives on a foundation of parity and capability, leading to a more stable and sustainable regional security.

During their conversation, the two leaders addressed key regional and international matters of mutual concern and the necessity of fostering calm, de-escalation, and stability across the region. They also explored ways to bolster peace and development opportunities for the people of the region. Gargash highlighted Pezeshkian's balanced and rational approach during the ongoing crisis, urging not to discount these perspectives at this critical juncture.

The UAE continues to champion diplomacy and de-escalation, complemented by measures to protect regional security and stability. Gargash reiterated Iran's attacks on the UAE and other GCC nations were deliberate, and regaining trust may take decades. He reiterated the UAE's steadfast commitment to diplomacy and the security of the Gulf region, particularly in light of the recent understanding between the US and Iran.
