Agreement signed to lay Rs14bn water line in Karachi from Dumlottee to DHA

Residents in various parts of Karachi may face water supply disruption due to a power breakdown at the Dhabeji pumping station, according to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC). The pumping station, which serves as the city's primary water intake point, is highly dependent on uninterrupted electricity. KWSC confirmed that power to several phases of the station was suspended at 6 am on Sunday due to a cable fault in K-Electric's system.

This resulted in the suspension of supply to the third phase, fourth phase, and K-3 Pump House at Dhabeji. Currently, 10 out of 21 pumps are non-functional, and water supply to the city could be partially affected. KWSC officials are in contact with KE to restore electricity, and once power is restored, the affected pumps will be made operational immediately.

KWSC urges citizens to avoid unnecessary water use. A fire near the pumping station is believed to have caused the cable fault. In July, the city experienced a similar shortfall of 48 million gallons of water following a breakdown at Dhabeji, affecting several areas, including North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi, and Scheme 33.

Earlier in the month, another electricity outage at Dhabeji affected the K-2 Pump House, leading to the temporary shutdown of three major pumps. On June 1, supply from the Hub Pumping Station was also suspended in parts of Karachi due to a fault in KE's main cable. The city faced three consecutive days of power failures at key pumping stations, with a daily water shortfall of 85 million gallons per day on that day.
