Adams Oloo to chair committee coordinating Raila Odinga’s first anniversary events

The family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has formed a committee under the leadership of Prof Adams Oloo to organize commemorative events leading up to the first anniversary of his death. This was announced in a statement released on September 13, 2026. The committee's task is to coordinate activities scheduled for the week of October 15, with the complete schedule to be revealed later.

The family emphasized that the anniversary would provide an opportunity for Raila's supporters to remember, mourn, celebrate his life, and honor the journey they shared with him. They stressed that Raila belonged to the people and noted that many of his supporters were denied the chance to mourn him following his passing. The family urged anyone interested in participating, supporting, or organizing activities for the anniversary to work with the committee, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and proper coordination.

They assured that everyone who walked with Raila, irrespective of their community, generation, or location, would be included. The statement was made on behalf of the Raila Amolo Odinga family on September 13, 2026. This announcement precedes a month-long celebration to mark the first anniversary of Raila's death, which occurred while he was receiving treatment in Kerala, India.

The preparations for this commemoration are underway at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Siaya, where a mausoleum for the late former Prime Minister is being built. This project is being undertaken jointly by the Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage, the Ministry of Defence, and the Raila Odinga family. The mausoleum is set to be completed by October, marking the beginning of the planned anniversary events that will gather Raila's family, political allies, supporters, and Kenyans who shared his political journey.
