A.P. Tourism Minister proposes Floriculture Research Institute for nurseries at Kadiyam

Minister of Tourism and Culture Kandula Durgesh announced on Sunday (September 13, 2026) a proposal to establish a Floriculture Research Institute focused on flower nurseries in Kadiyam. The Kadiyam region, situated in the East Godavari district and encompassing four mandals—Kadiyam, Atreyapuram, Alamuru, and Mandapeta—hosts over 11,500 hectares of ornamental flower species, spanning nearly 300 varieties.

Mr. Durgesh confirmed discussions with both state and central governments to propose this research institute. Addressing concerns that around 90% of flower nursery farmers are small and marginal, Durgesh assured the implementation of a bank-linkage loan facility to support the expansion of these nurseries. The new president of the Sir Arthur Cotton Nursery Farmers’ Association, Borsu Subba Rayudu, along with other members, took an oath and presented Mr. Durgesh with a ₹5 lakh cheque for the welfare of flower nursery workers and farmers.
