79th martyrdom day of Banavara Ramaswamy observed in Mysuru

On the 79th martyrdom day, the City of Mysuru observed the life of Banavara Ramaswamy, a 17-year-old who sacrificed his life for the cause of democracy. In 1947, Ramaswamy, a student at Hardwicke School, was part of a protest in the Five Lantern Circle demanding the release of arrested leaders. The Kingdom of Mysuru had not attained independence on the same day as the rest of the country, as it remained an autonomous province.

Ramaswamy was shot by the District Collector for refusing to relinquish the tricolour he was holding. Post his martyrdom, the Five Lantern Circle was renamed Ramaswamy Circle in his honor. AIDSO's Swathi highlighted the significance of Ramaswamy's courage, urging today's youth to stand against injustice. Alongside her, Basavaraju of AIKKMS farmers organisation, Ranjith and Poornima of AIDYO youth organisation, and AIDSO officials Chandana, Chandrika, Hema, Disha, Anjali, Deeksha, Teju attended the commemoration.
