Zahid: Umno to remain in unity government until end of term [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno party president Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed that the party will remain part of the unity government until its term concludes. Zahid emphasized the party's commitment to supporting the current administration, acknowledging that differences of opinion are inevitable within the government. The unity government's term length remains uncertain, so Umno's continued participation is a given.

Despite differing opinions, Zahid stated that professional cabinet members and party leaders must respect these differences while conducting their duties. At a media conference, Zahid addressed speculation regarding the party's stance on the unity government's leadership, clarifying that such views are personal and do not represent Umno's official position.

Official Umno stances are only communicated through media statements from the secretary-general or directly by Zahid himself. He also affirmed that the Blue Malaysia Agenda, presented in his policy speech, will serve as the primary framework for the party to deliver to its members and Malaysians. The agenda's eight key pillars will also form a crucial part of Barisan Nasional's manifesto for the upcoming election.

Once discussed with BN component partners and Friends of BN, this agenda will become the official manifesto. Zahid cautioned against turning this official policy and offer into a contentious issue outside of Umno, emphasizing that it is a legitimate policy and offer.
