Yankees mark 25th anniversary of 9/11 with ceremony including Derek Jeter and players from 2001 World Series team, Lee Greenwood, Brielle Saracini

On September 11, 2026, the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks was marked at Yankee Stadium. The New York Yankees and New York Mets honored the victims and heroes of that tragic day by wearing first responder caps. Yankees manager Aaron Boone, along with players Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole, laid a wreath in Monument Park.

The 2001 World Series championship team, led by Joe Torre, Jorge Posada, Paul O'Neill, Tino Martinez, Scott Brosius, Mariano Rivera, and Derek Jeter, took the field. The pregame ceremony featured Lee Greenwood singing "God Bless the U.S.A." Following the attacks, Greenwood's song became an anthem for the grieving city and nation.

Brielle Saracini and her husband Sean McGuire, both losing their fathers on 9/11, were also introduced. As children, they met at Camp Better Days, a camp for children who lost parents on that tragic day. Tonight, Brielle and Sean threw the ceremonial first pitches, joined by current players Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt. The pregame festivities concluded with a performance of the National Anthem by opera tenor James Valenti, and the participation of the Port Authority honor guard, NYPD ceremonial unit, and FDNY ceremonial unit, who presented colors.

FDNY Lieutenant William Arce was set to sing "God Bless America" during the seventh inning. Saracini and Jeter shared their memories of the day, recalling how Jeter made them feel comfortable and helped them feel normal during a difficult time.
