Works ministry declares Ogun bridge safe

The Federal Government has refuted claims of structural failure on the Oju-Ore Bridge in Ota, Ogun State, stating that the bridge is safe and meets all required engineering standards. The Ministry of Works confirmed that the bridge has passed all necessary integrity tests and is being constructed according to approved guidelines.

This assurance came after a delegation, led by the Director of Bridges, Highways and Road Designs, Engr Musa Saidu, inspected the project, following reports on social media alleging defects. Saidu dismissed the claims as unsubstantiated, emphasizing that such judgments should be based on scientific tests rather than social media imagery.

He cautioned against drawing conclusions about the integrity of major infrastructure from mere photos and videos, asserting that engineering decisions must be grounded in rigorous testing. The ministry affirmed that while minor finishing issues have been noted, they will be addressed before the bridge's completion. The assurance of the bridge's structural stability was reinforced by Laralek Construction Company, with the contractor confirming that all major components met or exceeded the required specifications.

The Oju-Ore Stakeholders Council also welcomed the government's clarification, urging patience as the project progresses.
