Although foldable phones have been available from other manufacturers like Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola for years, Apple's entry is anticipated to elevate the technology to mainstream popularity. Apple CEO John Ternus emphasized that the iPhone Duo will "redefine the experience of using a foldable phone."

However, it remains to be seen if consumers will be willing to invest nearly $2,000 in a phone primarily for its folding capability. The iPhone Duo boasts a sleek design, being as thin as a passport when unfolded, with a 5.4-inch front screen and a 7.6-inch inner display. The screen has a matte finish to minimize glare and smudging, while the crease is almost imperceptible when touched.

This innovation addresses the visibility concerns of early foldable phones, which had prominent creases that deterred some users. As Samsung and other Android manufacturers continue to refine their designs, the latest Galaxy Z Fold 8 exemplifies the progress made in reducing visible creases. Apple's software plays a crucial role in the iPhone Duo's success, as it dynamically adjusts the interface depending on the phone's usage.

When partially folded, the software automatically redistributes app content to either side of the screen, enhancing usability.
