Virginia football takes care of FCS Norfolk State to improve to 2-0

The Virginia Cavaliers put on an impressive show, defeating FCS Norfolk State 59-3 on Friday night. The Cavaliers dominated the game, allowing the Spartans little chance to score throughout the 60-minute contest. Three different UVA quarterbacks threw touchdown passes, with standout performance from backup quarterback Beau Pribula.

Pribula completed 12-of-14 passes for 162 yards and added three touchdowns, all without having a single designed rushing attempt. Offensive coordinator Des Kitchings opted to keep Pribula in the pocket and utilize his passing skills throughout the game.

Backup quarterbacks Eli Holstein and Cole Geer also delivered impressive performances, each connecting on a single impressive throw. Holstein opened the second half with a goal line fade to Ty’Lyric Coleman, while Geer found high school teammate Williem Thurber for 28 yards in the fourth quarter.

At the skill positions, wide receiver Jacquon Gibson caught two touchdown passes from Pribula, despite struggling against UMass earlier in the season. Sophomore Xay Davis showed his speed with 107 rushing yards on 13 attempts. On defense, Kam Robinson returned to the field in a limited capacity and contributed to the victory. The secondary looked particularly strong, with Brandyn Hillman recording his second and third interceptions of the season and Jacobie Henderson showcasing his playmaking ability.

Sophomore linebacker Justin Rowe added a pick six in the final minutes, sealing the game. Senior Will Bettridge wrapped up the dominant performance by kicking a 30-yard field goal and scoring all seven PATs, putting him at the top of UVA's all-time scoring leaderboard.

With this victory, the Cavaliers have improved to a perfect 2-0 record. Now, they turn their attention to West Virginia, hoping to make better memories in Richmond next weekend.
