Umno to decide on proposal to raise Puteri membership age limit after GE16

Kuala Lumpur: Umno will deliberate on a proposal to raise the Puteri Umno membership age limit following the 16th General Election (GE16), according to party vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. As the head of the party's Constitution and Rules Committee, Khaled emphasized that any alteration would impact not only Puteri Umno but also Wanita Umno and the party as a whole.

He stated that the proposal garnered robust backing from Puteri Umno, yet the party must evaluate its broader consequences before reaching a verdict. Khaled described the matter as a complex one, necessitating a comprehensive assessment due to its potential impact on multiple fronts. Consequently, the committee opted to postpone a decision on the proposal until after GE16, allowing the party and its satellite groups to concentrate solely on the upcoming general election preparations.

Umno's Puteri Umno chief, Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi, had initiated the proposal to increase the membership age limit from the present 35 to 40. The proposal was one among numerous motions presented to the party's Constitution and Rules Committee throughout the year. Khaled acknowledged Umno's Puteri Umno for their endeavors to bolster the wing and recognized its significance to Umno's future.
