Umno Kedah sedia bincang dengan PAS, bukan ‘parti kucing’ dalam PN

KL: Umno Kedah has announced that it will begin discussions with PAS, instead of joining Perikatan Nasional (PN), for the upcoming 16th General Election (PRU16). Shaiful Hazizy Zainal Abidin, Umno Kedah's Public Relations Head, declared that Umno Kedah will initiate talks with PAS, but not with PN, due to the presence of a "cat party" within PN, a newly formed party only two days old.

When speaking about this "cat party," Shaiful stated that he will not single out any party and used the term coined by PAS State Secretary Sanusi Nor at PAS's annual muktamar. On September 5th, Sanusi announced that PAS would not cede seats that are likely to be won by other parties in the upcoming election, noting that PAS has been facing a situation where its strength and support have not been fully translated into political power for too long.

Sanusi also stated that PAS needs to stop feeling inferior when discussing with other parties, emphasizing that a new party claiming to be formed recently is not worthy of joining a political cat party. In a related development, Umno Deputy President Mohamad Hasan clarified to journalists that Umno Kedah is free to conduct any discussions at the state level, as Umno cannot use the same formula for all states.

As for their discussions, they need to bring them to the attention of the headquarters, and it will be up to the headquarters management to investigate each of the discussions conducted in the future, he added at PAU 2026.
