UK's Charity Commission issues regulatory advice to Board of Deputies following ICJP complaint

The UK's Charity Commission has issued regulatory advice to the Board of Deputies of British Jews following a complaint from the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP). The complaint arose from accusations made by the Board that a protest against a London real estate event was organised on "bogus grounds." The ICJP argued that the Board relied on assurances from event organizers that properties in illegal Israeli settlements would not be marketed, but later apologized for including such properties in promotional material.

The Charity Commission reminded the charity's trustees that risks arise when a charity "is, or perceived to be, closely associated with a company," particularly regarding public statements and communications. The Commission will retain the ICJP's information and consider it in future regulatory engagements with the charity.
