Ukraine-Krieg: Putin führt AfD-Erfolg auf Fehler des Westens zurück

Kremlchef Wladimir Putin has attributed the AfD's strong performance in the recent state election in Saxony-Anhalt to errors made by Western countries. Speaking to a press conference in New Delhi, Putin said that all current events in Europe are the result of systematic mistakes by Western nations in politics, security, and economics.

He also accused European governments of provoking an open conflict with Russia, which has led to uncertainty among their citizens and reflected in the electoral outcomes in Germany. The Russian leader believes that this rationale also applies to the results in the Federal Republic of Germany. During his stay in India for the BRICS summit, Putin made these remarks.

An anonymous Kremlin-linked TV correspondent shared a video on Telegram containing Putin's statements. Earlier, Putin was asked about the outcome of the AfD's performance in the Saxony-Anhalt state election. Putin denied any threat to Russia, claiming that it has no basis for conflict with any European countries since all issues stemming from World War II have been resolved.

However, he acknowledged that the conflict originated from European states. Putin argued that the EU's desire to revise the outcomes of World War II and drive their countries towards a war with Russia is the root cause of the ongoing conflict. The war began with Putin's February 2022 order to launch an attack on Ukraine. Since then, the destructive war has lasted over four and a half years.

A coalition of over 35 countries pledged to provide legally binding protection to Ukraine in case of a peace agreement or subsequent Russian aggression. They also agreed on a framework for a multinational force to serve as a deterrent and support Ukrainian forces during peacetime. So far, mediation efforts to end the Russian aggression, primarily by the US, have failed.

Russia maintains its demands for maximum control over Ukraine and regularly threatens EU nations with hybrid warfare, including military, economic, intelligence, and propaganda tactics, such as cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns aimed at influencing public opinion during elections. The German government accused Russian intelligence of attempting a drone attack on a Ukrainian transport plane near Leipzig/Halle Airport in early August.

Russia denied the claim, with Vice-Chair of the Russian National Security Council, Dmitri Medvedev, warning that Germany would face direct attacks on its military equipment production sites and other locations in Berlin. Ex-President Medvedev frequently threatens the use of nuclear weapons against Western capitals like Berlin, London, and Paris.
