Two youths drown in Achenkovil river

They were caught in a strong undercurrent while bathing near the bund.

Two young students from Konni lost their lives in the Achankovil river on Saturday. Deneesh Shibu, a resident of Konnappra, and Sebin Binoy, a resident of Payyanamon, were identified as the victims. The incident occurred near the Puthiyakavu Devi temple after the trio had completed their volleyball training at PSVPM Higher Secondary School.

Following their bath, they were swept away by a powerful current near the river's bund. One of their friends managed to escape before the Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene. Both Deneesh and Sebin were rushed to Konni Medical College Hospital, but their lives could not be saved. Their bodies are now kept at the hospital mortuary and will be returned to their families following a postmortem examination.
