‘The Odyssey’ Slays ‘Jurassic World’ To Become Universal’s Highest Grossing Movie Ever At Global Box Office With $1.68B

After reaching new heights in the summer box office, Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" has claimed the title of Universal's highest grossing film of all time, surpassing the $1.67 billion record set by "Jurassic World" in 2015. This achievement comes after a series of record-breaking feats by "The Odyssey," including it becoming the career-best for Nolan, surpassing even "The Dark Knight Rises" in inflation-adjusted total, and attaining the highest grossing Imax film ever.

Nolan has become the most globally popular filmmaker in recent times, as "The Odyssey" is the first non-sequel or remake to gross over $1 billion outside of the United States and Canada. Donna Langley, Chairman of NBCUniversal Entertainment, praised the film as "one of the most ambitious and brilliantly executed films in cinematic history."

Originally intended to gross over $550 million worldwide, "Oppenheimer," Nolan's previous film, ended up making nearly $1 billion globally and became the highest grossing Best Picture Oscar winner since "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" in 2003. "The Odyssey" aims to continue the successful collaboration between Nolan and Universal, which began five years ago when Nolan joined Universal to produce the biopic about the creation of the atomic bomb.

The film's success will solidify its place among other films that have grossed over $600 million domestically this summer, as it joins a select group of 18 such films before inflation adjustment.
