Thane Police Admit Case Diary Lapses In Advocate Sarita Khanchandani Suicide Case; Disciplinary Action Against 4 Officers

Mumbai, September 12, 2026: The Thane police have admitted to errors in the handling of a case diary related to the alleged suicide of Advocate Sarita Khanchandani. This admission was made in a 13-page affidavit filed before the Bombay High Court, following a directive to submit a status report on the investigation. Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against four officers, and the investigation has been transferred to another officer.

The Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Thane, personally reviewed the case diary and found it was not properly maintained by the investigating officers. They noted issues such as improper pagination, missing certificate annexure, and unnumbered pages. The investigation was conducted by Assistant Police Inspectors Harshal Kulkarni and Apeksha Jadhav, but Jadhav claimed the discrepancies were due to a genuine human error.

All the papers forming part of the diary were bound together in one set, and the affidavit stated that the contents reflect the steps undertaken by the investigators. The investigation has been transferred to the Police Inspector (Crime) of Vitthalwadi Police Station.
