State-level alliances do not mean Umno is disloyal, says Azalina

KUALA LUMPUR – Umno’s pursuit of diverse political alliances at the state level should not be seen as disloyalty to the federal government, according to Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, the party’s information chief. She pointed to Warisan’s stance in Sabah, emphasizing that the party remains an opposition at the state level while supporting the federal government and being part of the coalition.

Azalina highlighted that there is no clause within the agreement to form the federal government that prevents its signatories from pursuing different political arrangements at the state level. She explained that the agreement pertains to the formation of the federal government and that Umno leaders continue to carry out their responsibilities professionally as ministers and members of the administration.

Azalina also cautioned against treating Umno as a passive partner merely expected to accept every decision, stating that such treatment would be unfair. Umno president Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had suggested potential cooperation with Pas during the party’s general assembly.
