Sisi and Putin review bilateral cooperation and regional issues

On Friday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin met, discussing bilateral cooperation and regional issues during the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The two leaders expressed their desire to strengthen relations and cooperation across various fields to benefit both nations. President Sisi highlighted ongoing projects in Egypt, such as the al-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, as well as cooperation in energy, trade, investment, food security, and tourism.

He reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to overcoming challenges that may impede joint projects and welcomed the accreditation of Alexandria and al-Alamein international airports, which would enhance Russian tourism in Egypt.

The Russian President emphasized his country's commitment to deepening cooperation with Egypt and supporting its comprehensive development, including completing major projects on schedule. In terms of regional issues, the leaders discussed the Palestinian cause, stressing the importance of a just and comprehensive settlement based on a two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions.

President Sisi reported on Egypt's efforts to implement the second-phase obligations under the agreement to cease the war in Gaza, emphasizing the need for adequate and timely humanitarian aid. They also addressed the Iranian conflict, stressing the priority of de-escalation and returning to negotiations for a comprehensive and lasting agreement through peaceful means.

Additionally, the leaders touched upon the situation in Sudan, asserting the necessity of preserving Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and national institutions. President Sisi stressed that any infringement on Sudan's security, unity, or sovereignty would be a red line that Egypt would not tolerate.
