Seahawks Handed Potential Trade Option Amid Sam Darnold Injury

The Seattle Seahawks faced an unexpected trade scenario following the injury to their starting quarterback, Sam Darnold, during their Week 1 victory over the New England Patriots. ESPN and NFL Network reported on September 10 that Darnold might miss the Seahawks’ next game against the Arizona Cardinals on September 20. However, it was stated that he could be back sooner than anticipated, and the team regarded it as a fortunate escape from a potential setback.

Currently, the Seahawks are relying on backup quarterback Drew Lock, with Jalen Milroe stepping in if Lock were to be affected. Milroe had a mixed performance in the preseason, with mixed results, and there is no assurance that Lock can handle the starting position. This uncertainty has led to speculation that the Seahawks could use a Day 3 pick to bring in another quarterback as a safety net in case Lock underperforms or faces an injury.

A report from September 11 suggested that Pittsburgh Steelers' Mason Rudolph could be a potential trade candidate for the Seahawks. Rudolph, who has completed 64.4% of his passes for 4,925 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions since joining the league in 2019, could provide valuable experience. With Drew Lock having filled in for Darnold against the Patriots, Macdonald acknowledged that Lock could rely on Rudolph's support.

Rudolph’s starting experience would be an added advantage for Seattle, particularly if Darnold’s injury persists.
