Scott, Bailey lead N.C. State's 73-0 romp past Richmond

RALEIGH, N.C. — In a dominant performance, N.C. State's football team, led by quarterback CJ Bailey and running back Duke Scott, defeated Richmond 73-0 on a stormy Friday night. Scott rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, setting the tone for the Wolfpack's victory. Quarterback Bailey completed 13 of 17 passes for 281 yards with one touchdown, while another touchdown came on the ground.

Backup quarterback Will Wilson contributed with three short touchdowns and a touchdown pass. Richmond, an FCS member, struggled to move the ball, gaining only 110 total yards. Their quarterback, Ashten Snelsire, completed 8 of 23 passes for 76 yards and an interception. The Wolfpack scored touchdowns on their first six possessions, with the majority of those drives taking place within the first four and a half minutes of the game.

There was a lightning delay of approximately 90 minutes early in the second quarter, resulting in an unusual halftime shortening and a shortened fourth quarter of just 10 minutes. Richmond had not achieved a 3-0 start to a season since 2011, but they fell to 0-2 after this game. N.C. State, improving to 13-1 in home openers under coach Dave Doeren, will next face Vanderbilt on September 19.

Richmond, facing their first 3-0 season since 2011 (excluding the shortened 2021 spring), will host Georgetown on September 19.
