SAR sends 'strongest' tennis squad to Asian Games

The Hong Kong Tennis Association has unveiled a formidable 12-player squad for the upcoming Asian Games in Nagoya, spearheaded by top-ranked players Coleman Wong and Eudice Chong. The association announced that Hong Kong will participate in all five core tennis disciplines, including men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles.

Association president Michael Cheng hailed the team as one of the strongest the city has ever fielded for the Asian Games, emphasizing that they are poised to secure medals. Cheng urged every member of Team Hong Kong to give their all on the court and make the entire city proud. Notably, Coleman Wong, who recently ascended to the ATP top 100, expressed particular excitement about returning to the Asian Games men's singles event, drawing on his quarterfinal run in Hangzhou and ATP tour and Grand Slam experience to deliver the best possible performance for Hong Kong.

Chong, who will compete in women's doubles alongside Cody Wong and mixed doubles with Kai Thompson, emphasized the immense pride of representing Hong Kong at the Asian Games again. This year, Chong broke into the top 60 rankings in doubles and has competed in three Grand Slams, enhancing her confidence in handling major event pressure.

Rising Hong Kong star Kai Thompson, debuting at the Asian Games, credits his performance at the National Games and junior Grand Slams for building a strong mindset and enabling him to perform at his best during the competition. The Hong Kong tennis squad is scheduled to compete at the Games from September 27 to October 3 at Higashiyama Park Tennis Centre in Nagoya.
