Quo vadis? — Hafiz Hassan

On September 12, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi criticized the PH-led unity government's fluctuating approach in altering the fuel quota for the Budi95 program. He predicted that the government would likely reduce the quota again, closer to the next general election. Umno Vice-President Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob defended the government's decision, stating that changes are made based on needs and necessity.

Ismail Sabri mentioned that 12 of his ministers had written to the Sultan, expressing their concerns about political developments in the country.

Former deputy prime minister and home minister Ahmad Zahid had previously criticized the Education Ministry for allowing Malaysian pupils and students to return to schools in phases, starting on March 1, 2021. He called the decision a "flip-flop" and criticized the Ministry for burdening students and their parents. When Tok Mat, known affectionately as Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, expressed his discontent, he was not a Cabinet Minister at the time, but his colleagues in Umno were, with Ismail Sabri serving as Senior Minister (Security Cluster).

Ismail Sabri's defense of the government's decision was met with backlash from other Perikatan Nasional (PN) ministers, who were openly criticizing the government's policies and decisions. Ismail Sabri referred to the need for "solidarity in administration," a term that seems to have escaped Ahmad Zahid and his colleagues' minds.

Ahmad Zahid's comments echoed those made by former government leaders, who were critical of the government for "policy flip-flop." He reminded his audience that the same leaders had acted similarly for the people during their time in power. However, Ahmad Zahid did not specifically single out any individual, only warning them to "respect the ruling government."
