Punjab Sets Deadline for 700 Water Filtration Plants

In a bid to ensure clean drinking water for its residents, the Punjab government has set a firm deadline of November 30, 2026, to install and operationalize 700 water filtration plants across Rawalpindi Division. This decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin.

Officials presented an overview of the situation, discussing the availability of clean water, the state of current filtration plants, and the progress made on ongoing projects. The district-wise plan allocates the highest number of filtration plants to Attock, with 207 units set to be installed, followed by Rawalpindi with 175 plants and Jhelum with 142.

Yasin emphasized the importance of maintaining the functionality of existing plants while new facilities are being installed. He ordered a thorough inspection of machinery, filters, electricity supply, water quality, and other essential components at the existing plants. Any non-functional plants will be identified, the reasons for their closure documented, and timelines for their restoration established.

The minister stressed zero tolerance for compromising on the quality of projects related to clean drinking water provision. He directed officials to tackle any delays or bottlenecks affecting ongoing work. Moreover, authorities were instructed to establish a robust maintenance system for regular replacement and repair of filters and equipment to ensure the plants remain operational.

District administrations and relevant departments have been tasked with enhancing monitoring, developing mechanisms to address public complaints, conducting regular laboratory testing of water quality, and maintaining accurate records of test reports. Comprehensive data on filtration plants across all districts of Rawalpindi Division will also be compiled.
