Pune: PMC To Upgrade Nine Civic Hospitals With Modular OTs, ICUs & Advanced Neonatal Care

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) plans to enhance healthcare facilities at nine civic-run hospitals and maternity homes across the city. The upgrades will include modern operation theatres, intensive care units, improved labour rooms, and advanced neonatal care equipment. PMC Health Officer Dr Vaishali Jadhav emphasized the importance of providing advanced healthcare within the municipal system, allowing patients to avoid private or tertiary-care hospitals.

The project will focus on infection control, surgical safety, and neonatal care, particularly for economically disadvantaged patients. Selected hospitals include Dr Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Bopodi; Bharat Ratna Late Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, Yerawada; and Chandamama Sonawane Hospital, Bhavani Peth. The upgraded modular operation theatres will feature advanced technology, including anti-static flooring, specialised ceiling filtration systems, and single-arm surgeon pendants.

Labour rooms will be upgraded with dedicated delivery beds, air showers, and digital fumigation systems. A separate modular ICU at Dr Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Bopodi, will house 10 motorised Fowler-function ICU beds and advanced medical equipment. Similarly, the NICU at Kamla Nehru Hospital will be strengthened with 10 advanced neonatal ventilators and CPAP machines.

Additionally, the PMC will implement an Advanced Integrated Ward Management System and provide services of 38 specialists across various departments to streamline administrative and medical operations.
