Sharjah police have issued a stern warning about the dangers of tailgating following 15 road casualties in the emirate in 2025, including one fatality and 14 injuries. Most of those hurt suffered moderate injuries, with only five sustaining minor harm. The incidents involved individuals in both motor vehicles and motorcycles, underscoring the grave risks associated with following another car too closely, especially on high-speed roads.

In total, Sharjah recorded 426 traffic accidents in 2025, with 366 occurring in Sharjah City, 34 in the Central Region, and 26 in the Eastern Region. The warning comes as part of a broader traffic awareness campaign aimed at educating drivers about the importance of maintaining a safe following distance. Police footage shows the dangers of tailgating, demonstrating how a delivery motorcycle colliding with a car can result in a deadly impact, highlighting the need for drivers to leave ample space between their vehicle and the one in front.

This safety message resonates across the UAE, where 836 tailgating-related accidents were recorded in 2025, with Dubai leading the count at 663 incidents, followed by Abu Dhabi with 104. The remaining cases were reported in Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah, Sharjah, and Ajman. These figures serve as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of failing to maintain a safe distance between vehicles, especially on high-speed roads.
