Petersen error lets City back in as Chiefs are held

Polokwane City and Kaizer Chiefs played out a 1-1 draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday in the Betway Premiership. Chiefs' goalkeeper Brandon Petersen made a mistake that allowed City to equalise in the 73rd minute. The result left Chiefs with an unbeaten start to the season but a slip-up in keeping a clean sheet. Petersen had shown good form in the first half with several saves, but turned from a hero to a villain after the break.

City captain Lebohang Nkaki had a chance to put City ahead in the 11th minute, but it was ruled offside. Chiefs created a potential scoring opportunity when Inacio Miguel's long ball found Etiosa Ighodaro, but the offside flag was raised. In the 15th minute, Chiefs' Mfundo Vilakazi had a promising run but hit a tame shot that was easily saved by City's Oscarine Masuluke.

Petersen made two crucial saves, blocking headers from Bonginkosi Dlamini and Keorapetse Sebone. Chiefs took the lead in the 30th minute when Pule Modi's cross was headed down by Lebohang Maboe, who calmly finished past Masuluke. However, City regained the lead through a near-post corner that found the net despite Petersen's efforts.
