Pakistan Needs Stronger Digital Infrastructure to Boost IT Sector: Shaza Fatima

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized the need for Pakistan to strengthen its digital infrastructure, such as fiber connectivity, mobile broadband, spectrum availability, and satellite regulations, during a recent speech at the American Business Forum-LUMS Thought Leadership Session. The minister stressed that enhancing the country's digital ecosystem is vital for creating an environment where technology businesses can flourish, attract investment, and compete globally.

She also pointed out the importance of developing Pakistan's human resources, as while jobs and opportunities exist in the technology sector, there is a shortage of appropriately skilled professionals. During the discussion, industry experts highlighted the need for structural improvements in curricula, teaching, and the K-12 education system to enhance the quality and employability of technology graduates.

Additionally, they called for greater government procurement, a predictable taxation environment, and stronger public-private partnerships to support the growth of technology businesses in Pakistan.
