Omkam Aviations Announces Landmark Push For 50 Russian IL-114-300 Aircraft With Local Assembly Line To Revolutionize Tier 2 And Tier 3 Regional Connectivity

Omkam Aviations Pvt. Ltd. is set to revolutionize regional connectivity in India by signing a landmark agreement with Russia to introduce 50 IL-114-300 aircraft into the Indian market. The deal, discussed at the Innoprom India trade fair in New Delhi, involves a strategic plan for the 100% domestic manufacturing of these aircraft under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement with Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).

Mr. Peeyush Kumar Aggarwal, Managing Director of Omkam Aviations, revealed that the first batch of six aircraft will undergo assembly in India, followed by the establishment of a full-scale manufacturing plant. Sberbank of Russia has committed to providing the necessary funding, with an initial investment of 1,500 crores for the first phase.

Designed for shorter runways and regional airfields, the IL-114-300 is perfect for connecting underserved Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities directly. For instance, travelers can fly from Meerut to Mumbai without the need to transfer through Delhi. This model opens up point-to-point routes, bypassing larger commercial jets that cannot service due to infrastructure constraints.

The project not only promises to enhance regional connectivity but also supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for the Make in India and Atmanirbhar initiatives. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu emphasized the importance of connecting regional airports, particularly with the arrival of new airfields.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin further bolstered the partnership, visiting the UAC booth at INNOPROM where the IL-114-300 was showcased. President Putin's personal interest in the project and his commitment to bilateral technological cooperation signal a strong geopolitical alliance between India and Russia.
