ODM denies plans for separate Nairobi rally alongside Linda Mwananchi

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership in Nairobi has rejected claims that the party is organizing a separate rally alongside the Linda Mwananchi Movement on Sunday, September 13, 2026. ODM Nairobi Chairman George Aladwa addressed the media on Friday, September 11, 2026, dismissing the rumors, stating that his party has no such intentions.

He welcomed the Edwin Sifuna team to the capital city and organized their rally. Aladwa firmly distanced himself from allegations of attempting to disrupt the Linda Mwananchi activities, asserting that there were no plans to interfere with their events. He also defended the government and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, both of whom have been accused of trying to intervene in the ongoing activities.

Former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo, a key member of the Linda Mwananchi Movement, spoke about receiving credible reports of individuals being organized to disrupt their meetings. She emphasized that Kenya is a democratic country where people should not be silenced from expressing their political preferences, and the rally will proceed as planned regardless of any interference.

The Linda Mwananchi team, led by Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Babu Owino, has been organizing political events in Nairobi, including a church service at All Saints Cathedral and a rally at the historic Jacaranda Grounds. The major rally for Nairobi is scheduled for January 2027, with the team seeking to gain a foothold in the capital city where they have been campaigning.
