NJPMC commends district judiciary’s performance

The National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) praised the district judiciary's remarkable accomplishment in resolving 1.46 million time-bound cases and 133,457 Model Court cases between September 2025 and July 2026. Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, presided over the 62nd NJPMC meeting, which included the Chief Justices from Lahore, Sindh, Peshawar High Courts, and the Islamabad High Court Registrar.

Notable attendees comprised the Ministry of Law and Justice Secretary, Ministry of IT and Telecom Additional Secretary, and National Cyber Emergency Response Team Director General.

The Committee highlighted that the Lahore High Court determined 1,258,745 time-bound cases, the Sindh High Court resolved 127,069, the Peshawar High Court addressed 26,293, the Balochistan High Court handled 21,522, and the Islamabad High Court dealt with 34,046 cases within the specified timeframe. Model Criminal and Civil Courts managed 46,203 criminal cases and 23,596 civil cases, while the respective High Courts decided 15,107 criminal and 5,634 civil cases, 14,233 criminal and 3,573 civil cases, 14,374 criminal and 8,869 civil cases, and 1,154 criminal and 714 civil cases.

NJPMC acknowledged the efficiency of clear timelines, measurable targets, and ongoing institutional monitoring as the key factors driving this success. They affirmed their appreciation for the hard work of the High Courts, District Judiciary personnel, and staff behind these impressive results. The Committee emphasized that the performance data for time-bound cases is now integrated into the National Judicial Analytics Dashboard (NJAD) and encouraged the High Courts to maintain regular monitoring and review through the Dashboard.

The NJPMC called for the High Courts to institutionalize the time-bound disposal mechanism, with consistent performance reviews and prompt corrective actions. Additionally, they requested the respective Registrars of the High Courts to verify the data accuracy in NJAD, while Member Inspection Teams (MITs) would periodically validate District Judiciary data and report any discrepancies for timely corrections.

Moreover, NJPMC resolved that High Courts should hold monthly performance briefings before the Chief Justices, with a focus on case disposal, pendency, backlog, category-wise performance, and emerging trends necessitating remedial actions. Registrars of the High Courts must ensure that observations and directives derived from these briefings are recorded, acted upon, and that data in NJAD remains updated to reflect ongoing progress.
