Names of all Indians above 18 years old should appear in electoral rolls, says CEC

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has stated that the names of every Indian citizen aged 18 and above should be included in the electoral rolls and that they must exercise their right to vote. This includes individuals from all walks of life, regardless of their religion, gender, or ability. Kumar emphasized that the initiative involves a large number of booth level officers and agents from recognized political parties.

He urged everyone, particularly the youth, to download the ECINET application, check their voter ID number, and ensure their names appear on the electoral rolls. Those whose names are missing can fill Form-6 and declare their eligibility through the app itself. Kumar stressed that it is crucial to ensure no eligible voter is left behind.

The process of updating electoral rolls through Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has been completed in 10 states and three Union Territories since June last year, while it is ongoing in 19 other states. The Electoral Literacy Club and the ECINET app were also highlighted during a press briefing as part of the Election Commission's SVEEP program.

The primary goal of these initiatives is to promote electoral literacy, ethical voting, transparency in the electoral process, and the vision of 'Transparency from Roll to Poll.'
