Artisans are diligently working on giving the final touches to more than 5,000 colossal idols of Lord Ganesh, popularly known as Bappa. Small idols are also abundant in number. Local artisan Durga Painter revealed that he creates the idols in various forms such as Shambhu and Radha-Krishna, playing Dandiya and perched on peacocks, lotuses, rats, and swings. He mentioned that artisans are involved in making these idols at three locations within the city. Some idols are towering at seven feet in height, he added, further stating that he has crafted around 150 large idols and smaller ones, with prices ranging from Rs 50 to 5,000 each.
Residents hailing from Kothri, Jawar, Mehatwada, Khachrod, Siddhikganj, Maina, and other nearby places purchase these idols. The trend of worshipping large idols is prevalent in Ashta presently, and it takes up to eight days to construct a big idol, he explained. Places in Ashta where idols of Lord Bappa have already been installed include Bhopal Naka, old Bhopal-Indore Marg, bus stand, hospital square, Khatri Market, Bada Bazar, Alipur, and several other venues.
