Mason McKenzie throws for a TD, runs for one as BC beats Rutgers 28-21 in Eagles’ Red Bandanna Game

Boston College defeated Rutgers 28-21 in the Eagles' annual Red Bandanna Game on Friday night. Mason McKenzie played a pivotal role in the victory, throwing a 78-yard touchdown pass and running for another score. McKenzie completed 17 of 24 passes for 244 yards but also had two interceptions for the Eagles (1-1). Quarterback AJ Surace of Rutgers (0-2) completed 18 of 27 passes for 230 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions.

BC linebacker Bodie Kahoun was taken off the field by an ambulance during the second quarter after leading with his head on a tackle, but was later reported to have movement in all his extremities. Rutgers' quarterback AJ Surace threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to KJ Duff, narrowing the gap to 28-21 late in the third quarter. BC's Anthony Palano intercepted Surace with under two minutes left, sealing the win.

The game honored the memory of former lacrosse player Welles Crowther, who died rescuing others in the World Trade Center on 9/11. Rutgers will next host No. 14 USC in a Big Ten game.
