Maple Leafs news: Toronto dealt disappointing Max Domi injury update

The Toronto Maple Leafs have received a disappointing update regarding the injury status of veteran forward Max Domi, who will miss the start of the 2025-26 NHL season following offseason surgery. General Manager John Chayka informed The Canadian Press that Domi will undergo evaluation upon returning to training camp and is projected to be out indefinitely.

The nature of the injury, speculated to be a back ailment, was disclosed by former Toronto Sun reporter Steve Simmons. Domi, a 31-year-old native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, had a challenging season last year, recording 12 goals and 36 points in 80 games while holding a minus-29 rating, the second-worst on the team. Despite this, Domi has consistently been a valued player for the Maple Leafs, contributing 47 points in his inaugural season in 2023-24 and accumulating 486 points in 815 regular-season games, including 33 points in 63 playoff contests.

His defensive contributions, including his role as a grinder with the highest penalty minutes over the past three seasons, are integral to the team's strategy. With Domi sidelined, Colton Sissons, Teddy Blueger, and Dakota Joshua may see opportunities to step up in his place, with Blueger being the most likely starter in the 3C role following his solid performance for the Vancouver Canucks last season.
