Malaysia gears up for 2027 SEA Games, haze contingency and all

TAWAU, September 12 — Malaysia is preparing a plan to address the potential impact of haze during the 2027 Southeast Asian Games, which the nation will host, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol revealed. Speaking to reporters following a town hall session at a Sabah state-level event, Mordi said that while the preparations for the Games are moving along smoothly, they remain vigilant for the possibility of haze interfering with the event. He noted that the country is fully prepared should such an eventuality occur.

Mordi also highlighted that the development of sports facilities and accommodations for the SEA Games is proceeding without issues, particularly in Sarawak, one of the co-hosts. As part of a comprehensive approach, Mordi announced that a trial program will be conducted to assess the sports facilities before the commencement of the Games.

During the town hall session, Mordi emphasized the importance of engaging with young people, especially those in rural areas, to understand their aspirations. He further encouraged them to take advantage of the government's initiatives to develop their skills and improve their livelihoods.
